Janet Hessling worked with the Indianapolis Museum of Art Conservation Department to clean two murals by Eugene Savage in the Fountain County Indiana Courthouse. County Seat Covington was the birthplace of the artist, who had become a nationally known mural painter by the time he agreed to return to his hometown to paint murals in the new courthouse.
The two murals on either side of the grand staricase are allegories of honest and dishonest collection and use of tax money. |

Savage included images of family members and long time teacher and community leader Miss Olive Cofeen in the painting of citizens benefiting from wise spending. The paintings were in good condition largely due to Savage's excellent technique, but required cleaning and revarnishing. |
