Janet W. Hessling Fine Art Conservation

Ciampaglia's 1936 murals decorate buildings at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas, an art-deco masterpiece that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Janet Hessling worked under contract with Fine Art Conservation Laboratories of Santa Barbara, California to restore the series of more than a dozen paintings. As Senior Conservator on the site, she implemented a cleaning procedure to safely remove layers of exterior paint that had covered the murals since the mid-1940s and supervised a team of technicians and interns during cleaning. She later helped retouch the revealed original images.
