Moving Kughler's fourteen paintings depicting the History of North Carolina from the old auditorium to the new lobby and atrium of the Institute of Government at the University of North Carolina was a co-operative effort. Janet Hessling worked with Art Services of Durham, NC to safely move the large canvases. (L) During the transfer, the paintings were also cleaned. (R) |

The canvases of two of the paintings were unstretched and mounted to a special carrier to move them through a too-narrow doorway. Once they were in the Lobby, the two paintings were restretched, framed, and hung. Five other paintings were moved into the Atrium through a window. Six of the paintings have been distributed to the Morehead Planetarium, the Museum of the Albemarle, and the Elizabeth II State Historic Site. |
