Janet W. Hessling Fine Art Conservation

Jan Hessling worked with colleague Michael Ruzga to restore this large painting which had been rolled in storage since it was removed from the reading room at the Library at Marshall University in the 1960s. The conservators attached the canvas to a custom made solid support so it could once again be displayed in the library at Marshall University. During the treatment, Helen Chambers Hensley visited the worksite, much to the delight of the conservators. Mrs. Hensley, now 90, had posed for Fors when she painted the mural in 1937.
